What is it?
Commentary and reflection on things happening in Britain - occasionally humorous, occasionally angry, occasionally dull.
Why have we launched?
Older men are beaten down and confused by the world. They disguise it by adopting strong and angry views on things they can’t do anything about. The Bleating Goat is partly to air those views but it’s also to share information and to challenge our assumptions and prejudices. We encourage feedback from readers so that we can all be entertained, learn things and (sometimes) evolve and adapt how and what we think.
Why should you subscribe?
The Bleating Goat may provide a chuckle or two but we also hope you come across interesting ideas and insights you won’t have heard before.
It’s designed to entertain and inform everyone. An interest in Britain, politics, culture football and/or music will help. It may appeal on the whole to older readers but will hopefully be accessible to everyone.
International readers are very definitely encouraged, and the newsletter is written assuming many of our readers are not from the UK.
What do you get?
Paid subscribers get access to all content including the archive and can post comments. Free subscribers get access to the occasional public posts. We post around four-six items a month. If things go well we will look at additional features such as regular interaction on Substack Notes and podcasts, videos etc.
Contribute
It’s a goal of the Goat to feature regular contributions from people who have always wanted to write but have not found the time or the outlet - opinion/thought/satirical pieces, even poems and short stories. Get in touch if you are interested. You won’t be paid anything for contributions, at least not until we start making any money!
